Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council ![]() Duncan Gay was first elected as a member of the Legislative Council in March 1988 and has been a member of the National Party since 1974. Duncan was born and raised in Crookwell, near Goulburn and educated at Crookwell District Rural School. Duncan completed his secondary schooling at Newington College in Sydney and went on to study accountancy and wool classing. He is married to Katie and they have two children, Anna and James. He served in the Army Reserve 12 Company Royal Australian Army Service Corp (Transport) at Marrickville and the 19th Royal NSW Regiment (Infantry) at Holsworthy. Throughout his 21 years in Parliament, Duncan has held a wide range of portfolios and positions, including; Chairman of Committees in the Legislative Council, Deputy President of the Legislative Council, Leader of the National Party & Deputy Opposition Leader in the Legislative Council, Shadow Minister for Industry, Shadow Minister for Roads, Shadow Minister for Ports and Waterways, Shadow Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries, Shadow Minister for Hunter Development, Shadow Minister for Regional Development, Shadow Ministerfor Emergency Services, Shadow Minister for Local Government, Shadow Ministerfor Energy, Shadow Minister for Mineral Resources, Shadow Minister for State Development, Chairman of Joint Select Committee upon Police Administration and the Vice Chairman of Joint Committee on ICAC. Duncan Gay is a highly involved and dedicated member of the National Party. Over the last 35 years as a Member Duncan has taken on board a range of roles within the Party including; NSW State Chairman (1991 – 1994), NSW Vice Chairman (1988 – 1991), Member of the Central Executive (current), and Member of the Campaign Committee (current).
