Member for Myall Lakes ![]() John Turner was first elected to Parliament in 1988 as the first Member for the Myall Lakes Electorate. Since that time, he has successfully contested six state elections for the Nationals for the seat of Myall Lakes. John grew up in Cessnock in the beautiful Hunter Valley, attending Aberdare Public School and later Sydney Grammar School. John is married to Ann and has two daughters and a son as well as two grandchildren. He now lives in Forster on the Mid North Coast. After high school John under took the Solicitors Admission Board examination and was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court and HighCourt. He practised law in his own practice in Cessnock, East Maitland and Medowie before entering Parliament. John has also been involved in small business having owned and worked in a bottle shop and green grocery store. John also served two terms on the Greater Cessnock City Council, being Deputy Mayor during his last term. Since being elected to Parliament John as returned to university (part time of course!) and has degrees in Politics and Journalism which are beneficial to him in his role as a Member of Parliament. During his time in Parliament, John Turner has been given the responsibility of several esteemed portfolios and positions including, Deputy Leader of the National Party, Chairman of Committees, Temporary Chairman of Committees, Shadow Minister of Local Government and Hunter Development, Shadow Minister for Mineral Resources, Shadow Minister for Fair Trading, Shadow Minister for Fisheries, Shadow Minister for Hunter Development and the Hunter Water Board, Shadow Minister for Roads and Tourism, Shadow Minister for Sport and Recreation, Shadow Minister for Tourism, Shadow Minister for Road Safety, Shadow Minister for Fair Trading, Shadow Minister for Local Government, Shadow Minister for Mineral Resources, Shadow Minister for Lands. John Turner is currently appointed as Legislative Assembly Trustee, Parliamentary Contributory Superannuation Fund, which he has been entrusted since 1999. About the Myall Lakes electorate On the State’s Mid North Coast, Myall Lakes Electorate covers 8,017.43 sq km and has a predicted elector quota of 49,063 voters at the 2007 Election. Major towns include Bulahdelah, Cundletown, Forster, Hallidays Point, Mount George, Old Bar, Smiths Lake, Taree, Tuncurry and Wingham. Contact
