Member for Orange ![]() As the Member for Orange for over a decade, Russell Turner has experience in highlighting the specific needs of his electorate at the highest levels of government. His dedicated focus on the people of the Orange Electorate in delivering them better funded and improved essential services is in strict contrast with the Carr-Iemma-Rees Labor Government’s track record. Beginning his political career as a member of the National Party, Russell’s staunch loyalty to The Nationals is noteworthy. Russell was chairman of the Orange Branch, and later the secretary and Vice-Chairman of the Calare Electorate Council. Russellbecame the Member for Orange in 1996, before entering Parliament. He is The Nationals 'Spokesperson for Decentralisation and also sits on the Parliamentary Legislation Review Committee. Prior to his entry into parliament, Russell was a strong supporter of the community service program sand committees based in his area. The former Alderman and Orange City Councillor has observed and listened to local problems from many perspectives, and as such has had the opportunity to act directly for them when in Parliament. Russell was a former Chairman of the Showground, Bushfire Management, Orange City Council Development and District Tourism Committees, clearly demonstrating his wish to be fully involved in all aspects of his electorate. Russell is also a former Member of the Apex Club of Orange, and current Member of NSW Farmers Association and Rotary Club. Russell continues to be a strong voice for the people of NSW living and working under the Carr-Iemma-Rees Labor Government. Having run a successful poultry farm and orchard, Russell has a commanding first-hand interest in the plight of local sunder Labor. Born in 1941, Russell is a committed family man, married with three children, and certainly has the interests of residents and businesses first.
